There is a place in the foothill´s of Canada´s Rocky Mountains where each day visitors come from across Canada and around the world. Calgary, ´Heart of the New West´ - a cosmopolitan city of nearly one million, with breathtaking outdoor adventure and pristine wilderness in its backyard. Home to the ´Calgary Stampede´ a popular cowboy carnival - thousands of locals and visitors alike flock here in their Stetsons every summer to pay homage to the pioneering origins of Calgary´s past. Visitors will enjoy a small yet bustling city with a multitude of attractions, entertainment venues and of course shops! A perfect entrance or exit point for a trip to Western Canada.

Climate

In Alberta, expect lots of sunshine, no matter what the season. But be warned: being close to the mountains means weather can change at a moment´s notice. So follow the lead of Albertans, and be prepared!

Transportation

Calgary International Airport is the main entrance point for most major air carriers and is just a 20 minute drive from the city centre.

City Layout: Calgary is laid out in four quadrants: northeast (NE), northwest (NW), southeast (SE) and southwest (SW). Avenues run east-west, streets run north-south. Numbering for avenues begins at Centre Avenue, for streets at Centre Street.

How the Transit System Works:
1. Calgary´s Light Rail Transit System or LRT serves the main arteries of the city from North to South.
2. You can transfer from the LRT to buses and vice versa.
3. Travel in the downtown core between City Hall and 7th Avenue SW is free.

Calgary Tower
A spectacular experience awaits you at the Calgary Tower. Board one of our elevators, and you´ll enjoy the breathtaking city and mountain views. on the observation deck you will find the breathtaking glass floor experience, as well as binoculars and multi-media kiosks.
The revolving Panorama Dining Room offers delectable Canadiana culinary delights and an unsurpassed view.

Calgary Zoo
From the splendour of the Rocky Mountains to the heart of Destination Africa, visit over 900
animals from around the world! Trek through a rainforest with gorillas, safari over the
Savannah to watch hippos swimming, hike through Eurasia with the tigers or go up to the
Canadian Wilds to find the grizzly bears. Complete your world tour with a trip through
time in our Prehistoric Park or soothe your senses in nearly six acres of Botanical Gardens.
Open year-round from 9am . 5pm. Buildings close at 6 pm.

Canada Olympic Park
As the flagship site of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, Canada Olympic Park is situated 15 minutes from downtown, on the Trans Canada Highway, at the gateway to the Rocky Mountains. The Park is unique from most Olympic venues in that it continues to operate as a multi-purpose competition, training and recreation area designed for year-round use by both athletes and the general public.

Fort Calgary
Fort Calgary brings history to life by telling the stories of the Mounted Police site, the settlement
and the people of Calgary through dynamic interpretation and exciting exhibits. Interactive
opportunities are found around every corner! Be sure to grab a bite to eat at The Deane House
restaurant.

Glenbow Museum
Choose your own museum adventure!Pick your destination and travel to another world in our permanent galleries.Learn the story of the Blackfoot people, travel to Asia with world-class sculptures, see one of the world.s oldest known rocks, or explore the life of warriors. Shopping

Stroll through Calgary´s past down Stephen Avenue Walk, a pedestrian street in the midst of downtown. Modern shops line these blocks of exceptionally preserved and renovated historic structures, while restaurants, lounges and coffee bars make perfect people-watching perches.

Stephen Avenue Walk links up to the Downtown on 8th Shopping District - a shopper´s paradise that includes Bankers Hall, Calgary Eaton Centre, and TD Square. You don´t even have to step outside to get to 400 shops and services connected by the Plus 15 Walkway system

A few blocks north, the Festival Market District is also a favorite place for strolling and gift shopping. Among the dozens of stores and shops in the Eau Claire Market, you´ll find an art gallery specializing in limited edition prints, and boutiques containing designer and casual fashions, foods and wines, candles and collectibles, jewelry and books.

While downtown attractions are many, a number of malls and unique neighborhoods throughout the city offer a great choice of products. A number of boutiques, galleries and specialty shops can be found in the Kensington Ave area. To the east of the downtown core along Ninth Ave NE, the revitalized Ingelwood area features a number of antique shops and galleries.
